STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Base Transport Factor = Collector Current/Base Current
β = Ic/Ib
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Base Transport Factor - Base Transport Factor is defined as the factor of base current required to transfer emitter current to the collector of the BJT transistor.
Collector Current - (Measured in Ampere) - Collector current is defined as the current flowing through the collector terminal of a transistor.
Base Current - (Measured in Ampere) - Base Current is the current flowing through the base terminal of a bipolar junction transistor. Base current is typically 1% of emitter or collector current for small signal transistors.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Collector Current: 1.1 Milliampere --> 0.0011 Ampere (Check conversion here)
Base Current: 0.44 Milliampere --> 0.00044 Ampere (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
β = Ic/Ib --> 0.0011/0.00044
Evaluating ... ...
β = 2.5
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
2.5 --> No Conversion Required

Define Base Transport Factor

As the load resistance ( RL) is connected in series with the collector, the current gain of the common emitter transistor configuration is quite large as it is the ratio of collector current to base current. A transistors current gain is given the Greek symbol of Beta, ( β ).Since the electrical relationship between these three currents, base, collector and emitter is determined by the physical construction of the transistor itself, any small change in the base current ( Ib ), will result in a much larger change in the collector current ( Ic ).
Then, small changes in current flowing in the base will thus control the current in the emitter-collector circuit.

How to Calculate Base Transport Factor?

Base Transport Factor calculator uses Base Transport Factor = Collector Current/Base Current to calculate the Base Transport Factor, Base Transport Factor is defined as the factor of base current required to transfer emitter current to collector of the BJT transistor. Base transport factor is the ratio of collector current to base current of a BJT transistor. Base Transport Factor is denoted by β symbol.

To use this online calculator for Base Transport Factor, enter Collector Current (Ic) & Base Current (Ib) and hit the calculate button. Here is how the Base Transport Factor calculation can be explained with given input values -> 4.4625 = 0.0011/0.00044.

FAQ

What is Base Transport Factor?
Base Transport Factor is defined as the factor of base current required to transfer emitter current to collector of the BJT transistor. Base transport factor is the ratio of collector current to base current of a BJT transistor and is represented as β = Ic/Ib or Base Transport Factor = Collector Current/Base Current. Collector current is defined as the current flowing through the collector terminal of a transistor & Base Current is the current flowing through the base terminal of a bipolar junction transistor. Base current is typically 1% of emitter or collector current for small signal transistors.
