Rarc = (V0-Varc)/idmax
This formula uses 4 Variables
Variables Used
Resistance of Criterion Arc - (Measured in Ohm) - Resistance of criterion arc is the equivalent resistances of all the components of the circuit.
Voltage of Power Supply - (Measured in Volt) - Voltage of power supply is the voltage required to charge a given device within given time.
Discharge Voltage of Arc - (Measured in Volt) - Discharge Voltage of arc is the voltage across discharging circuit of EDM.
Maximum Current in Sparking Circuit - (Measured in Ampere) - Maximum current in sparking circuit is the maximum current in sparking circuit.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Voltage of Power Supply: 10 Volt --> 10 Volt No Conversion Required
Discharge Voltage of Arc: 1.068 Volt --> 1.068 Volt No Conversion Required
Maximum Current in Sparking Circuit: 30.8 Ampere --> 30.8 Ampere No Conversion Required
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
Rarc = (V0-Varc)/idmax --> (10-1.068)/30.8
Evaluating ... ...
Rarc = 0.29
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.29 Ohm --> No Conversion Required

How the spark is produced in Electric Discharge Machining ?

A typical circuit used for supplying the power to an EDM machine is named as the relaxation circuit. The circuit consists of a DC power source, which charges the capacitor ‘C’ across a resistance ‘Rc’. Initially when the capacitor is in the uncharged condition, when the power supply is on with a voltage of Vo, a heavy current, ic, will flow in the circuit as shown to charge the capacitor. The relaxation circuit as explained above was used in the early EDM machines. They are limited to the low material removal rates for fine finish, which limits its application. This can be explained from the fact that the time spent on charging the capacitor is quite large during which time, no machining can actually take place. Thus the material removal rates are low.

How to Calculate Resistance of Circuit using Arcing Criteria?

Resistance of Circuit using Arcing Criteria calculator uses Resistance of Criterion Arc = (Voltage of Power Supply-Discharge Voltage of Arc)/Maximum Current in Sparking Circuit to calculate the Resistance of Criterion Arc, Resistance of circuit using arcing criteria is defined as the the sum of inductive resistance and resistance of the sparking load in the discharging circuit. Resistance of Criterion Arc is denoted by Rarc symbol.
