Constants Used
pi - Archimedes' constant Value Taken As 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288
Variables Used
Total Axial Load - (Measured in Newton) - Total Axial Load is the force that is acting on the clutch during torque transmission.
Pressure of Intensity - (Measured in Pascal) - Pressure of Intensity is the pressure acting on the clutch and is assumed to be constant.
Outer Diameter of Friction Disc - (Measured in Meter) - Outer Diameter of Friction Disc is the outer diameter of the friction disc.
Inner Diameter of Friction Disc - (Measured in Meter) - Inner Diameter of Friction Disc is the inside clutch plate diameter.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Pressure of Intensity: 400000 Newton per Square Meter --> 400000 Pascal (Check conversion here)
Outer Diameter of Friction Disc: 0.25 Meter --> 0.25 Meter No Conversion Required
Inner Diameter of Friction Disc: 0.15 Meter --> 0.15 Meter No Conversion Required
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
Fa = (pi*p*(Do^2-Di^2))/4 --> (pi*400000*(0.25^2-0.15^2))/4
Evaluating ... ...
Fa = 12566.3706143592
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
12566.3706143592 Newton --> No Conversion Required
FINAL ANSWER
12566.3706143592 12566.37 Newton <-- Total Axial Load

What is axial force?

Plate clutch is an example of the friction clutch. It consists of two flanges, one of them is rigidly keyed to driving shaft, and the other is free to slide along the driven shaft due to the splined connection. A compression spring is used to press these flanges against each other and torque is transmitted by friction. A suitable mechanism is provided to compress the clutch spring to disengage the clutch.

The amount of torque transmitted depend on axial force, the coefficient of friction, the area of contact.

How to Calculate Total axial force?

Total axial force calculator uses Total Axial Load = (pi*Pressure of Intensity*(Outer Diameter of Friction Disc^2-Inner Diameter of Friction Disc^2))/4 to calculate the Total Axial Load, The Total axial force formula is defined as the total force that is acting on the clutch plate during torque transmission. Total Axial Load is denoted by Fa symbol.

How to calculate Total axial force using this online calculator? To use this online calculator for Total axial force, enter Pressure of Intensity (p), Outer Diameter of Friction Disc (Do) & Inner Diameter of Friction Disc (Di) and hit the calculate button. Here is how the Total axial force calculation can be explained with given input values -> 12566.37 = (pi*400000*(0.25^2-0.15^2))/4.

FAQ

What is Total axial force?
The Total axial force formula is defined as the total force that is acting on the clutch plate during torque transmission and is represented as Fa = (pi*p*(Do^2-Di^2))/4 or Total Axial Load = (pi*Pressure of Intensity*(Outer Diameter of Friction Disc^2-Inner Diameter of Friction Disc^2))/4. Pressure of Intensity is the pressure acting on the clutch and is assumed to be constant, Outer Diameter of Friction Disc is the outer diameter of the friction disc & Inner Diameter of Friction Disc is the inside clutch plate diameter.
